Meet and Greet New Hire Initiative: Brian Harmelink

   by Brian Harmelink Email

Welcome to the Meet and Greet New Hire Initiative information area. I want to first welcome the new hires who are using this site to gather information on the FAA. It is an exciting career that offers a multitude of opportunities. We are planning to use this area to help you acquire information that will help ease the transition from the academy to the field which is the main focus of the Meet and Greet training initiative.

Here is just a little history of the Meet and Greet new hire initiative. The Meet and Greet informational sessions started in July of 2008. The sessions were designed to help the new hires acquire information that would be beneficial as they transitioned from the academy to the field. The “Meet and Greet” sessions include managers from the various options in the field traveling to the academy to meet with the new hires to answer questions they might have on what training will be like in the field.. These sessions occur usually once every 6 weeks so that each student will have the opportunity to meet field managers at least once while at the academy. There are usually between 7 and 8 managers from the various field facilities that are present at each session. It is conducted in an informal setting while the students are having lunch or dinner.

We plan to continue this initiative bringing in managers from the field facility to help answer any questions the new hires may have. We are going to use this website to advertise the managers who will be participating in the various Meet and Greets. It is important to understand that even if your facility is not present, the various managers at the Meet and Greet sessions will still be able to answer any questions that you might have.

We are also planning to use this website to try and answer questions that are frequently asked at the meet and greet sessions. The dates of the future Meet and Greet sessions are as follows: Jan 14, Feb 25, Apr. 1, May 13, June 24, Aug 5, and Sept. 16.

If anyone has any questions about the meet and greet sessions, or is interested in participating please let me know. I can be reached at 952-807-3429 or by email at Brian.Harmelink@faa.gov.

eOPF: Electronic Official Personnel Folder

   by Jim Studstill Email

If you are new to the agency you will be interested to know that the DOT has completely automated your personnel folder on an electronic platform. Anytime you change pay bands, receive awards, designate new beneficiaries, or just about any other job related modification you can expect it to be recorded in your personnel folder.

Be advised, you can only access this account from work, it is intranet only. So, in order to access your eOPF, you must first visit the DOT entry portal here.
After reviewing the information click the accept button to go to the Login page. It’s pretty self-explanatory from here. Although I don’t think it’s required, you should have your FAA webmail up and going. Why? Because every update made to your eOPF will automatically trigger a handy message to your FAA NextGen Webmail address. You will find navigation help on this handout, and general answers to common questions here. You can always get additional help from your immediate supervisor or new hire sponsor.

Question and Answer

   by Jim Studstill Email

Good Morning,

We've been kicking around an idea concerning a general question and answer section, maybe even a forum. Until we iron out the details, we don't want your questions to go unanswered or at least directed to the right person. You can just follow this thread in the meantime, and I have created a category on the bottom right that you can do a general search to find what you are looking for. In any case, if you need to email me or any one of our contributors with a question, we will be happy to help.

Thanks,
